Game Summary's:

Dec 4 - Surge 9 / Hurricanes 0

It always nice to end the season with a strong win and that's what happened here.  Brittnay and Jenelle scored 2 points each, Jessica, Alisha, Shannon, Erin, and Sarah each scored one.  The scores for Shannon and Erin were thier first this season!  Sarah scared us all when she went down to the ground after kicking the ball.  She had obviously hurt her already bad knee and it looked like she was in a lot of pain.  After a fairly long time, she was carried off and later that day was walking around.

Dec 4 - Surge 1 / Wonders 1

The Wonders scored first.  Then Brittnay scored, tieing the game.

Nov 20 - Surge 0 / 88 Valley Riptides 5

The Riptides dominated most of the game with superior ball control. They had good passing skills and made thier kicks count.  Compared to past games this year, the Surge played at about 80% intensity, but 110% is what would have been needed to beat the Riptides. Ouch!

Nov 6 - Surge 2 / Top Cats 1

The Top Cats scored first.  Jenelle scored next making it 1 - 1.  Then Brit scored making it 2-1 before half.

Oct 23 - Surge 1 / Valley United 1

Kristy scored for the Surge just before the half.

Oct 16 - Surge 1 / Sidekicks 2

Sarah scored for the Surge just before the half.

Oct 9 - Surge 1 / Mid County Sparks 2

I didn't see this game, but the Sparks scored 2 goals early in the first half and Kristen scored a goal for the Surge just before the half.  It was Kristens first goal of the season.

Oct 2 - Surge 2 / Mt. Hamilton Rockets 4

This was an exciting game against a good team.  The first 15 minutes or so of the game, the Rockets kept the ball on the Surge half of the field but our defense did a good job of not letting the Rockets get offensive plays going.  Kim made several very good steals and when shots were made, Erin made the saves.

About 15 minutes into the game the Surge got their first shot off at the Rockets goal when Sarah took a pass from Amber and made a shot.  A few minutes later Jessica took a shot, then Amber. Momentum seemed to shift for a while but just before the half, the Rockets brought the ball down to the Surge goal and scored the first goal of the game making the score at the half, 0-1.

After half, the Surge came out looking strong.  Within a few minutes into the second half, Katie made a very nice kick from past the half line sending the ball up to the right side.  A Rocket back was first to the ball and started dribbling a few steps but Jenelle charged her, pushed the ball between her legs, picked it up on the other side, and then sent a nice one over the keepers head into the left corner of the net for the first Surge goal. Score: 1-1.

For the next few minutes the ball traveled to both sides of the field. The Rockets worked the ball down and made a few shots. Then Brittany made a breakaway and ran down making a shot.  Then the Rockets brought the ball back down the field and from the far left, the wing put the ball in front of our net. The center forward pushed it in for the score making it 1-2.

Within a couple minutes they made a similar score after a long kick from deep on their side to the left side of the Surge end, a quick cross and a strong boot by the Rockets center into our net made the score 1-3

Next, an injury.... after stealing the ball and starting a run, Amber got hit hard in the knee by a Rocket player who was coming straight at her.   The ref stopped the game and after a couple minutes Amber limped off, staying out the rest of the game.

A few minutes back into play - a cross from a Rocket on the far right landed in front of the Surge goal. After a split second scramble between Kim and a Rocket, the ball ended up in our goal.  Score: 1-4

With only about 5 minutes left, after a battle in front of the Rocket net ended with the ball getting kicked away, Alicia got it back and one touched it to Sarah. Sarah turned and booted it back in front of the Rocket net. With a group of players converging on the ball, Brittany managed to get a foot on it, sending it over to Kim who was standing on the other side of the net. Kim slammed it in for her first goal of the season.  Score: 2-4

All in all, it was a good, exciting game between two fairly matched teams.  A break here or there and it may have ended quite differently.  We are looking forward to a rematch.

Sept 18 - Surge 2 / Aptos Lightning 0

The Surge came out looking dominant.  Within the first few minutes of play Kristy made two dribbling runs toward the goal that looked very nice, dribbling between multiple backs. On a third attempt, she made a nice pass high and long over to Jenelle who made the first shot on goal.  After the lightning keeper kicked the ball away, the Lightning made several attempts to get their offense going down the field but Kristen, Katy, and Kim all made various plays which turned the ball around. Then, a Lightning offensive run got past a few of our backs, but Kristen faced down the Lightning forward and stuck her foot out to steal the ball. She quickly  passed it up field to Kristy, who then turned and made a nice kick to Jenelle. Jenelle dribbled up the side past two defenders and then passed over to Brittany who was moving straight to the goal.  Brittany one touched it in right past the keeper.  This made the score 1-0 four minutes into the game.

The next 20 minutes everyone on the Surge looked good. Great kicks by Sarah, Katy, and Kristen. Everyone looked focused and for the most part, was aware of each others position, backing each other up and moving the ball well.  The Lightning group was working hard as well though. They managed to get the ball probably 50% of the time or better, enough to keep the ball in the middle of the field or on our side for much of the half.  They made some runs toward our goal and on occasion, beat us on speed but our girls kept aggressive and for the most part looked in control.  With about one minute left, Jenelle stole the ball from one of the Lightning, dribbled it up the side and crossed into the goal for the second goal making it 2-0.

The Lightning came out fighting in the second half making a few runs toward our goal but the were quickly shut down.   Our girls did a good job of moving the ball around and not letting  control of the game go to the Lightning.   We made more shots on goal in the second half then the Lightning, but none packed enough punch to get past their keeper.  Most of the play took place between the goal boxes, moving back and forth down the field. When the 60 minutes were up, we had the game 2-0.

Sept 11 -  Surge 2 / Tsunami 1

The Tsunami started the game out looking eager for some goals but Kristen and Kim shut them down in the first few runs at our goal, slowing the Tsunami momentum.  The Surge started getting warmed up and made some good runs at the Tsunami goal.  We made some good plays and had a few good shots on goal in the first 15 minutes or so but weren't able to get one in for a score.  Then the Tsunami came back and brought the ball down to the Surge goal.  They shot at our goal and hit the upper cross bar, Erin moved under the ball as it fell and it came down in front of her.  Just then a Tsunami player got a foot on it but it went wide, past the goal and out to the left side of the field.   To just about everyone's surprise, the ref then blew the whistle and called it a goal.  After reviewing the game video tape, it looked controversial at best. The Ref said the line judge signaled it so I guess the ball must have just slipped under the top cross bar on the way down.  A few minutes later though, the Surge had worked the ball down to within a few feet of the Tsunami goal.  Kristy took a shot but it bounced of the goalie and shot right back to Kristy. Kristy shot again and this time it went right in making the game 1 to 1.

In the second half, the Surge came out and worked the ball well. The Tsunami made a few runs at our goal but our defense shut them down and we passed back up the field a number of times.  They did make one breakaway run at our goal but their shot went wide. We worked it down to the Tsunami side a few more times.  Then, with only about 10 minutes left the ball went out of bounds off one of the Tsunami on the left side of the field. Laura made a nice throw in toward the Tsunami goal. Sarah, in her first game with the Surge, came in and made a beautiful sliding left footer shooting the ball right into the goal.  With only a few minutes left, the Tsunami made another run at our goal but when they took the shot, it went wide.  Soon after, the game was over with the Surge on top, 2 to 1.
